Man found dead in park in Culpeper

Press release from Town of Culpeper

CULPEPER, VA - Culpeper police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in Yowell Meadow Park by a police officer on routine patrol early this morning.

The man has been identified as James Woodrow Davis, 60, with no fixed address.

When found, Davis was not wearing clothes appropriate for last night's inclement weather. Temperatures were in the 20s, with rain and sleet during the night.

About 8:15 a.m., Officer John Barone was conducting a routine foot patrol in the park when he spotted a man's body in Mountain Run below the bridge at the rear of the park.

The medical examiner was notified and the body was taken to the crime lab in Manassas for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police have been able to track Davis' whereabouts until about 9:30 p.m. Monday.

No foul play is suspected, but the investigation is continuing.
