RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - An elderly man was beaten and robbed in his south Richmond home in the 1300 block of Cargreen Road.

Bruises cover almost half of his face. He's got a busted lip. 74-year-old John Vogel says he was harshly beaten by two intruders who wanted more than just his jewelry.

"He took this big gun and put it right at my forehead, right between my eyes. I'm looking at a barrel like this, 'give me your money, give me your money', you know," said Vogel.

It was just after 10 p.m., Thursday. John was sitting in his red chair watching TV. Vogel lives alone, but Thursday night, he had visitors, including a godson staying with him.

His godson, Tyler Howerton, called 911 from the other room as the gunmen tried to coax him out.

"At first what got me alarmed was when I heard him yelling. Then they came back yelling, 'Tyler. Tyler. Open the door! Open the door!' He just kept knocking like that; it wasn't banging or anything. It wasn't real alarming but I knew something was wrong so I wasn't opening it," said Howerton.

The robbers ripped off Vogel's jewelry and fled out the back door.
