RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - You can get just about any type of Japanese food at Kobe Japanese Steak and Sushi at 19 South 13th Street in Richmond.
"We have a full sushi bar, fresh fish on a daily basis," said owner Ian Sun.
The restaurant had five critical violations on a recent state health inspection. The report says employees were washing and rinsing utensils and pans without sanitizing them. But Sun says they are always sanitized in their dishwasher.
"After we use these," he showed us a pan, putting it into a kitchen sink, "we put it in here because its right here. He thought we were washing it."
Sun showed us that all violations were corrected while the inspector was still on site.
Moving to Henrico, Nanking at 7408 Broad Street had 4 critical violations. The inspector wrote that the cutting board had black residue and the strainer was dirty. The restaurant had all the violations corrected on a follow-up inspection.
Malabar Indian Cuisine at 3456 Lauderdale Drive, Henrico had 4 critical violations, including that raw fish was stored above cooked foods in the reach-in. The restaurant had a perfect score next time.
This week's NBC12 Hall of Fame award goes to Long John Silver's at 2206 E. Laburnum Avenue in Henrico for a string of perfect inspections.
"Customer feedback gives us a lot of input on the restaurant and we follow-up with that," said general manager Ryan Rice.
