I-95 accident sends three to hospital

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - We are following breaking news on a serious accident on Interstate 95 near the Bryan Park Interchange.

We're told from state police and Richmond fire department that three people involved in a crash have been rushed to the hospital.

The accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. Thursday.

A family from Connecticut - father, mother, and son - were driving north on I-95.

Just before mile marker 80, near the Hermitage Exit, witnesses claim the father dozed off. The car careened into the shoulder and flipped several times.

The mother, who was in the passenger seat, was ejected.

First responders found all three outside the vehicle when they arrived; all of them were taken to hospital, the mother with serious injuries.

The scene was cleared within an hour and traffic is moving normally through the area again.
