PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Petersburg's top prosecutor is fighting crime in and out of the courtroom...keeping a positive light on the city.

She may be the boss, but making a change is just a part of who Cassandra Conover is.

"I do what I can to make an impact and I know that my reward's gonna be in heaven. I'm not looking for anybody to give me anything as long as I can just help one person," said Conover.

Her way of helping is through a program called Project Diamond that has been promoted in commercials.

"I was tired of the negativity, I was tired of looking at our children who didn't believe in themselves, partially because they didn't feel people believed in them," Conover said.

Project Diamond was created back in 2006. It's premise is to change the perception of Petersburg...starting with the people who live there.

"I just wanted people to start thinking positively about being a part of Petersburg," she said.

Conover brought several organizations together. The diamond she says consists of four corners: schools, churches, law enforcement and the community. Crime numbers are down in Petersburg...showing that this collaboration is making a difference.

"I think every program we have going on in the city contributes to that because it shows that our citizens are empowered," Conover added.

An empowered city that is changing the way people see it, one person at a time.
