HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – Last year's holiday shopping season appears to be the best ever for Henrico County.
New numbers show the county generated $6.2 million in local sales tax revenue last December, the highest amount ever collected in the county during a single month.
According to Director of Finance John Vithoulkas, the $6.2 million represents a 9.1 percent increase over December 2009, the highest increase in the region.
Vithoulkas said December 2010 sales were a "home run" and indicate the local economy is improving.
Henrico County keeps 1 percent of the 5 percent sales tax on goods and services.
