CHESTERFIELD (WWBT) - A man was killed by an Amtrak train just after 6 p.m. Sunday night.

Investigators say he tried walking across the tracks near Walmsley Boulebard when he was hit. His body was found about a quarter mile away from the tracks. It's unclear if he was thrown that far or if he tried to get help.

The train's 12 passengers and crew were delayed for two and half hours as police looked for clues. Police are in the process of identifying the man and letting his family know what happened.

We're expecting to find out his name and additional information later today.
