HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - If you are a woman over the age of 65, our first stop in this week's neighborhood health watch is for you.
Dr. John Clay is suggesting that all women over the age of 65 should get a bone density screening.
This tests for osteoporosis, which occurs mostly in women but also in men. All women over 65 should be tested and post-menopausal women or any man with risk factors should be tested.
Risk factors include thin body frame, cigarette smoking, heavy alcohol abuse, chronic use of steroid medications, and family history of osteoporosis.
Discuss this at annual physicals or other visits to the physician.
