Apartment fire leaves three homeless

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Three people are forced out of their home tonight after an apartment fire.

It broke out just after 5:00 Saturday evening in the 400 block of Westover Hills Boulevard.

The fire was contained to a unit on the second floor.

The renters weren't there, but firefighters rescued a couple people on the third floor.

"They were standing on the balcony, they were afraid to go down the stairway because there was smoke there," said Richmond Fire Dept. spokesperson David Creasy. "The firefighters brought them down the ladder and there were no injuries associated with that."

11 other units had smoke and water damage.

The total loss is estimated at $80,000.
