RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - On the final night of the regular season in high school hoops, Douglas Freeman, L.C. Bird, Evangel Christian and St. Chris all come away with victories.
For our final NBC12 Game of the Week, Godwin packed their home gym but the fans left disappointed. The Rebels of Freeman handed the Eagles their first home conference loss of the season, 49-36. Freeman sweeps their arch rival, and ends their regular season 18-4, and the second seed in the Colonial District Tournament. Justin Mann scored 13 points for the Rebels and Patrick O'Connor and Chris Pace both had 10.
L.C. Bird ran away with its final win of the regular season, beating Midlothian 68-48. The Skyhawks had the championship wrapped up before the game started, but they finish the year 18-3.
Evangel Christian's Dakota Jongebloed scored his 1,000th point, as he led his team to a 68-56 victory over Carlisle. Evangel is now 17-12 and ranked 8th in the state. Jongebloed is only a sophomore, and he's garnered interest from some bigtime schools, like Wake Forest and Notre Dame.
In another huge rivalry, St. Christopher prevailed over Collegiate 67-58. Jermaine Johnson had 21 points, Rob Vozenilek had 21 points, and Rodney Williams scored 15 points for St. Chris. Collegiate falls to 11-9, while St. Chris improves to 16-9.
