RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Watch out for major backups Friday on the Huguenot Bridge -- that could have you sitting still for 15 minutes.
They'll be filling potholes on the bridge tomorrow during the day between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
"We've had some people call in and say it's very bumpy and when cars try to avoid the pothole being such a narrow bridge, they weave out of their lanes a little bit." said VDOT's Project Manager, Ray Johnston.
Twenty four hundred cars pass through every day. The 15 minute delay could get frustrating. But don't expect it to ease up - road closures for the new bridge starts Saturday.
The southbound lane leading up to the bridge will close just south of River Road. All cars traveling south will cross over the median and share the northbound lane.
"People will be able to go south, they'll just be snuggled up close to the northbound lane," said Johnston.
The traffic shift will happen right outside Ellen McDonald's children's boutique, Rattle & Roll. She thinks her business will take a hit.
"My first instinct is to say it's going to impact it negatively, I'm optimistic that it won't," said McDonald.
So, if you're going north - take Chippenham Parkway, over the Willey Bridge to River Road. If you're going south, take the opposite direction on the same route.
And remember starting Saturday, the speed limit here will change from 45 to 35 miles per hour.
