Spiders hold on to beat GW

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Spiders continue to be road warriors, winning their 8th straight road game, 69-65 over George Washington.

Justin Harper scored 20 points, including the go-ahead lay-up with 43 seconds left.  The Spiders improved to 14-2 in its last 16 Atlantic 10 road games and a perfect 5-0 on the road in A-10 play this season. Richmond is 10-3 away from home this season.

The Spiders defeated George Washington for the fourth-straight time and the fifth time in the last six meetings. The Spiders have won just nine times in 39 meetings with GW in the nation's capital, but have won in the last three visits to Foggy Bottom.

Harper made 7-of-12 field goals, including 3-of-5 three-pointers, as he scored at least 20 points for the 10th time this season and the 14th time in his career. He also grabbed nine rebounds in 39 minutes.

Harper passed Eric Poole (1,221), Warren Mills (1,233) and Aron Stewart (1,237) to move into 21st on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,241 career points.

Dan Geriot scored 15 points, making 2-of-4 field goals and dishing out five assists. Geriot passed Kenny Foster to move into 19th on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,279 points.

Kevin Smith scored a season-high 14 points, making 5-of-6 field goals including a monster second-half dunk, and making two free throws in the final minute to secure the win.

Facing double and triple teams all night, Kevin Anderson finished with nine points, making 3-of-4 three-pointers, and dishing out five assists. Francis-Cedric Martel scored six points, including a big three-pointer that cut Geoge Washington's four-point lead to one with 3:06 left.

Richmond, which is 9-1 in February over the last two seasons, returns home to go for its third-straight 20-win season Saturday at noon hosting Saint Louis in a game televised nationally on ESPN2.
