Effort to pull funding from Planned Parenthood

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Undercover video, shot at Richmond's Planned Parenthood, is now fueling a debate on Capitol Hill -- about funding.

Some members of congress will gather tomorrow to urge that money for Planned Parenthood, be pulled.

The pro-life group, Live Action, claims the video proves the clinic on North Hamilton condones underage abortions and sex trafficking.

Several republican members of congress are now using that to try to take "Title Ten" funding away from planned parenthood.

Title Ten is part of the healthcare infrastructure and it provides family planning coverage for low income people -- abortions not included.

NBC12 political analyst Dr. Dan Palazollo thinks in the battle over abortion, both sides will take advantage of any perceived edge.

"The base of republicans are opposed to abortion, everybody is opposed to sex trafficking," said Palazollo.

"This is basic healthcare, it's annual exams, it's breast cancer screenings, it's cervical cancer screening, it's prenatal care," said Courtney Jones of Planned Parenthood.

Palazollo says Title Ten also falls nicely under the Republicans spending cut "wish list."

"It's a real battleground and it comes down to credibility," he said.

Credibility both sides are looking for at a time when a decades old debate seems to only be getting stronger.
