RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The debate continues over this controversial undercover video taken at a local Planned Parenthood clinic. The video, by the conservative group Live Action, features actors pretending to be a pimp and prostitute and soliciting an abortion and birth control for underage girls.
The actors imply that there are girls that have been brought in from other countries. It is the implication that Planned Parenthood did nothing about a couple claiming to be involved in human trafficking that the Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is taking issue with.
Cuccinelli, is one of the most prominent pro-life politicians in Virginia and is no friend of Planned Parenthood. This weekend he took that opposition one step further by accusing the group of being complicit in sex trafficking across the country.
The video is meant to illicit a reaction. It features a man claiming to want services for underage girls from out of the country.
"Some of the girls, are around like 14, 15," the "pimp" claims. "and like some of the girls are from like out of the state, out of country.
And for an anti-abortion politician, it is the kind of thing that swings them into action. Ken Cuccinelli has seized on the video, which appears to show a Planned Parenthood worker listening to someone discuss sex trafficking and doing nothing about it.
"We'll certainly we take an interest any time you see an expression like you do in these tapes of a willingness to support sex trafficking of minors," Cuccinelli said during an appearance on the Fox News Channel.
But Planned Parenthood contends that the video is a set-up and that their clinic employee did the right thing.
"She went directly to her supervisor, and our supervisor went to our national security office who reported it to both local authorities and FBI," said Courtney Jones, a Planned Parenthood spokesperson.
Cuccinelli, who is conducting an investigation of his own, doesn't buy it. On Fox he accused Planned Parenthood of playing a direct role in human trafficking.
"There are institutions already in place in Virginia and across America, Planned Parenthood in this case, who are happily willing to aid and abet that sort of effort," he said.
Liberal groups are attacking Cuccinelli's serious charge.
The left leaning web site Media Matters called out his claim on Fox News Sunday and pointed to various media reports that cited Planned Parenthood contacting the FBI in the wake of the Live Action visit.
