COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - Dr. James Bush is helping patients with carpal tunnel syndrome at Colonial Heights Medical Center.
The carpal tunnel is an area on the wrist where a nerve, called the "median nerve" passes between some fibrous tissue and the wrist bones.
If this area becomes swollen or inflamed, or pressure is placed upon the nerve, it will cause numbness and tingling in the middle, index and part of the ring finger, as well as the thumb.
Anti-inflammatory drugs may provide some relief, and it may resolve spontaneously. If not, other tests and treatment are available for more severe cases by your primary care physician or orthopedic surgeon.
