HANOVER, VA (WWBT) – King's Dominion will be packed Saturday, but no one will be there to ride the rides. It's not open yet, but the park is now looking to staff nearly 3,000 seasonal positions. Most jobs will run March through November, and the ideal candidate has a lot of flexibility as there are a lot of shifts to cover.
A park spokesperson says he's expecting between four and five hundred people at Saturday's job fair. Lots of jobs are up for grabs--and lots of types of people will be vying for them.
"Food and beverage, merchandise, security, marketing, just everything that we offer," said John Pagel, King's Dominion Marketing Manager. "Our applicant pool has gotten so large over the past couple of years from your high school student to folks looking for supplemental income for the summer."
In the past, we've even run across people with masters' degrees wanting to work at the amusement park. A local economist says that's not surprising as the unemployment rate in Virginia continues to hover at around 7 percent. People who've been unemployed may see their benefits coming to an end or their savings have run out. That was the case for one woman.
"We struggle to pay the electric, the water and the cable...I can cover the necessities, but a little extra money would help so much right now because we've depleted savings and everything," said Marilyn Roberts who has applied to work at King's Dominion in the past.
Before you come out to the job fair, you need to go ahead and fill out application, which you can get online. If you don't have internet access, you can fill out an application on site, but the process will be slower. Be aware, you will be interviewed right there on site Saturday.
King's Dominion is located right off of the Doswell exit on I-95. That's mile marker 98. When you get here, just follow the signs to human resources. Saturday's job fair runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. You can find an application and job descriptions on King's Dominion's website.
