Police try to be more visible in community

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond police descended upon a Churchill neighborhood. It's part of an effort to be more in touch with the community.

The department does a roll call every shift...but today, they did it outside near Woodville Elementary School at 28th and Tate Streets.

Officers tell us there have been a lot of drug complaints in this area and an exercise like this, that makes officers more visible, sends a positive message.

"It's one way to show the community that we're all trying to be effective in the community. A good presence to show everybody that we are trying to make a difference," said Steven Moore.

Police tell us the neighbors appreciate it when the officers come to the community and interact with them.
