Truck carrying 200 hogs overturns on Route 10

PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) - A truck carrying 200 hogs overturned on Route 10 closed the road in both directions.

Just before 11 a.m., the truck was traveling east when the driver lost control ran off road onto the right shoulder, came back onto the road and overturned in the 11600 block of James River Drive.

Route 10 reopened around 4:20 p.m.

The driver, a 58-year-old man from Indiana, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  He was charged with failure to maintain control of the vehicle.

One hog did escape from the truck.  The other hogs remain in the truck.  It's not known if any hogs are seriously injured or dead.  Police are awaiting for a recovery team to arrive.  They will corral the hogs onto another truck.
