HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A West End neighborhood is rocked by a crime spree. More than a dozen cars were vandalized in a neighborhood off of West End Drive. It happened overnight on Wednesday along several streets.
People in this West End neighborhood were shocked and angry when they woke up yesterday morning to multiple slashed tires.
"I was very shocked really and also mad," said Bob Edgeworth.
Edgeworth has lived in this neighborhood off of West End Drive for more than 30 years. He says once, a long time ago, he had his lawnmower stolen, but other than that, he's never had any trouble. That's why he was so surprised by his tire was slashed.
"A police officer came to the door yesterday morning bright and early and informed us that the tire had been slashed. We haven't had any trouble like this that I know of anyway," Edgeworth said.
Fortunately, Edgeworth didn't have anywhere he needed to go right away, but he was just one of more than a dozen victims of this vandalism spree. We spoke with a number of other victims who were a bit camera shy, but they told us they were also shocked and angry. Cars were targeted at random along several streets.
"They only got the ones on the street for some reason because we had cars in the driveway that they didn't touch," he said.
One van even got a double whammy, with not one but two tires hit. And just down the road, a large truck's tire sunk to the ground. Edgeworth hopes police catch whoever's responsible, and he has a few theories about who that might be.
"I can't imagine, probably kids I guess did it; either that or somebody who doesn't like you parking on the street," he said.
People living in this neighborhood tell me if crimes like this keep happening, they will certainly want to ramp up neighborhood watch efforts.
