Death penalty expansion bill advances

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Plans to expand the death penalty are moving forward in the General Assembly.

Today a Senate subcommittee gave preliminary approval to a bill that would allow the death penalty for co-conspirators, but only in cases where a victim was raped and murdered.

Opponents argue any expansion of the death penalty increases the chance of executing someone who is innocent.
