JMU lets win slip away vs. Hofstra

by Matt Lincoln

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - James Madison needed a win to stop their losing streak, and they let it slip right through their fingers.  Hofstra overcame a 15 point second half deficit to beat the Dukes 92-90 in overtime.

Charles Jenkins scored 35 points to lead The Pride (14-6, 8-1 Colonial Athletic Association) and keep them tied with VCU at the top of the CAA standings.

Hofstra trailed 52-38 with 14:47 left to play, but closed the gap to 52-49 thanks to a 11-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from Shemiye McLendon at the 11:22 mark.

The Pride continued to trail until two free throws from McLendon tied the score at 79 with 17 seconds left in regulation. Hofstra made all six of its free-throw attempts in overtime compared to a 4-of-7 effort at the line by the Dukes (15-6, 5-4).

Denzel Bowles had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Julius Wells added 23 points for James Madison, which has lost three straight.

Hofstra travels to VCU Thursday night. JMU hosts Drexel Wednesday.
