HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - It's a happy ending for the three chinchillas we first told you about on Friday.

The fluffy creatures were adopted over the weekend.

A mother and two young males were turned over to Hanover County Animal Control when a family could no longer care for them.

Chinchillas are expensive to take care of, so Hanover County was looking for the right pet owners - and found them Saturday morning thanks to our story.

The three chinchillas were in need of loving homes, in addition to dozens of dogs and cats, a rabbit and even a rooster.

"They are cute little furry creatures, and we want to make sure that they go to a good home," said Chief Kevin Kilgore with Hanover Animal Control.

"Obviously with these specialty pets here, you've got to have a special situation; a lot of times you've got animals that you have to have a good environment for and know how to take care of them; that's the most important thing," Kilgore said.

Chinchillas are special creatures.  They can live 20 years, require special food that can be expensive and they can't get wet, so they take baths in dust. That means not just anyone can adopt these animals.

There are still lots of other animals available for adoption. See the Hanover County Animal Control website for more.
