RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A family is mourning the death of 29-year-old Regina Doctor -- who seemingly got caught in crossfire -- and left for dead Tuesday in the 1400 block of Harwood Street in the Hillside Court neighborhood of South Richmond.
Police swarmed the scene Tuesday night, in the tough neighborhoods of Hillside Court.
"Everything was going good, had a nice day and I come home she told me to clean my room, clean up downstairs," said Regina's son 13-year-old Ruquan Doctor.
Ruquan was at a friend's house when he heard his mom was shot.
"I ran down there as fast as I could to see, then, just…" said Ruquan.
Dealing with his mother's death has quieted Ruquan but his aunt was visibly upset.
"This is my sister we talking about this is my other half, you understand me can't nobody bring her back to me, I don't even believe she really gone, I don't," said Regina's sister Evelyn Doctor.
"Her sister is destroyed, no one knows unless they've gone through that," Alicia Raisin, CEO of Citizens Against Crime.
A family now broken, Richmond police offers a bit of relief. On Thursday, they named Deandre Yellardy also known as "Petey" a suspect wanted for attempted murder in this case. He was arrested early Friday.
There was a second victim who survived the shooting and police still need more information. You can call crime stoppers at 780-1000.
Citizens Against Crime will be holding a vigil this Saturday at 5 p.m. in the 1400 block of Harwood Court where Regina lived and died.
The public is urged to bring candles.
