Chesterfield police seek applicants for citizens academy

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - If you've ever wanted to learn more about the Chesterfield Police Department, here's your chance.

Right now police are accepting applications for a citizens academy that starts February 15, 2011. Enrolled residents will meet on Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Clover Hill Police Facility, 2730 Hicks Road.

The 10-week class focuses on crime-related and public safety issues that can impact the community. Department members lead classes about police department functions, crime prevention methods, personal safety, emergency communications, identity theft and fraud, volunteerism, special response teams, investigations and the Crime Solvers program.

The program is free for citizens 18 years or older, who reside, work or own a business or belong to a Chesterfield County civic organization. Class size is limited to 25 students. Applications will be accepted through February 4th and can be downloaded at www.chesterfield.gov/police.aspx?id=2496.
