Two alarm fire in downtown Richmond

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Investigators are trying to find out what caused a fire at a downtown apartment complex.

Around 1:30 Saturday afternoon a pedestrian noticed smoke billowing from the roof of a four story building in the 300 block of W. Grace St.

Firefighters say the complex was under renovation; only a handful of construction workers were in the building at the time of the blaze.

Those workers were able to evacuate the building unharmed and are now working with fire investigators to figure out what started the fire.

In addition to closing traffic in the area several surrounding businesses were evacuated.

No injuries were reported.
