CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - A company that owns part of a major development project under way in western Chesterfield has filed for bankruptcy.

One of the developers for the Roseland Village Company tells the Times-Dispatch it filed for bankruptcy protection Thursday.

Roseland Village owns roughly one third of the 1300 acre Roseland project that sits off Route 288 and Woolridge Road. The plan calls for more than 5,000 homes and nearly two million square feet of office and retail space.

County leaders approved the zoning for one of the area's largest developments back in 2008.
