RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond sheriff's deputy was arraigned this morning on a child pornography charge.

Robert Arthur Thompson, 55, of the 1400 block of Stansbury Avenue in South Richmond, was arrested yesterday and charged with possessing child pornography and possession with intent to distribute. He is free on $10,000 bond.

Richmond Sheriff C.T. Woody, Jr. today reported the termination of deputy Thompson, who was employed by the Richmond City Sheriff's Office for ten years. His termination comes following an internal investigation by the Sheriff's Office, according to a release.

Sheriff Woody said, "I am extremely disappointed with the findings of the internal investigation into the deputy's conduct, but recognize that he is still innocent of the criminal charges until proven guilty. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation by the Richmond City Police Department, I have no additional comments at this time."

Thompson was snagged by an investigation of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
