Residents tied up during home invasion

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – A knock on the door from a stranger led to a scary situation in Chesterfield.

The people inside the home, were tied up, blindfolded and robbed. What makes this even scarier - is that it happened in broad daylight, just after two Tuesday afternoon on Natick Court, in the Sturbridge Village Townhouses. So far the person who did this is still out there somewhere and the people who live in that community tell us tonight they're now nervous it could happen to them.

The neighbors that live in the row of town homes where the home invasion happened had no problem opening the door to a stranger tonight, completely unaware of what happened there the day before. Someone invaded their neighbor's home and robbed them in the middle of the afternoon.

"That's a little concerning," said neighbor, Walt Schroff. "I do have an alarm system here. We do have a couple of dogs."

"It makes me very uncomfortable and afraid," said another woman.

The suspect knocked on the victim's door and forced his way inside. He tied the victims up, put clothing around their heads and then stole items from inside of the house. The incident happened in broad daylight at a time when most people feel the safest in their home. Now these neighbors are thinking twice about what to do when a stranger shows up at their door.

"I don't answer the door," said the woman and she hinted that she might even call the police if it was someone she didn't know. "After this, if I'm uncomfortable about anything I'll be calling the police."

"I would certainly look out the little hole in the door," said Schroff.

The burglars made off with various electronics. The people inside the home were not seriously hurt. Unfortunately police were not able to give us any suspect information but if you know anything about this incident you can make an anonymous tip by calling Crime Solvers at 748-0660.
