RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Dozens of flights were canceled Wednesday morning out of Richmond International Airport.  Winter weather grounded planes mostly to the Northeast, but there were problems getting to Atlanta and Charlotte too.

One young woman we spoke with was trying to get back to college. Her flight had been canceled not once, but twice.

"It's been nice to spend extra days at home," said student Maria Martin.

She was looking on the bright side, but it was clear that Martin was bummed about missing two days of classes.  Winter weather in Atlanta caused her several days of problems as she tried to fly to Kansas.

"I was supposed to leave Monday morning, but flights were canceled twice, so I haven't been able to get back to college in Kansas, and I have been missing classes yesterday and today," she said.

Maria says her professors have been understanding, and she's not the only student who's gotten stuck because of snow and ice.  She certainly wasn't alone at RIC either.  More than 30 flight cancellations plus delays left a lot of people waiting around and looking for ways to pass the time.

Burt Stanley came here to see his son, and after two blasts of winter weather, he was ready to get back to Daytona Beach.

"They said that they did have slight delays in Atlanta, but that my flight into Daytona, with the layover that I have is not going to be a problem," Stanley said.
