RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - DMV headquarters is ready for repairs after a busted pipe caused flooding on two floors including customer service, Monday.

"We really made a lot of progress in getting the moisture out of the air. Also since Monday we have torn down a lot of the wet sheet rock out of the wet drywall, and we've torn out some carpet in the back offices that were affected," said Melanie Stokes, DMV spokesperson.

The work ahead is extensive. New flooring, countertops, carpet, drywall, not to mention, computers and supplies and since it took the entire work week to dry out the place, DMV isn't wasting any time with repairs.

"Work is beginning immediately," Stokes said.

All week customers were turned away.

"We're just so sorry for their inconvenience. We know its put some people out," Stokes said.

There are five other DMV locations within a ten mile radius of the headquarters in 2300 West Broad Street. The two closest are in Chesterfield at 610 Johnston Willis Drive and West Henrico at 9237 Quioccasin Road.

"Main priority is the health and safety of our customers and our employees, but we hope to be open in 2 to 3 weeks," Stokes said.
