RICHMOND, VA. (WWBT) -- Early Thursday morning, water was flowing very fast down Midlothian Turnpike near George Wythe High School.
We found out it was not a broken water main, but rather a water tower that was being filled by the city exceeded capacity. When that happened, an overflow valve opened up to allow the excess water to spill out.
That valve automatically closed when the water tower was no longer overflowing. The city told us they were planning on putting sand down on both Wythemar and Midlothian where the water was flowing fast this morning.
There were a few slick spots in the right lane of Midlothian earlier, but that has now cleared up.
