RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Governor Bob McDonnell spent time away from the capitol today to help those in need. Virginia's first family served lunch at the Healing Place in Richmond.
The Healing Place is a homeless shelter and offers a long term residential substance abuse recovery program.
They helped dish out a meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, a salad and dessert to about 40 people.
"Part of what this holiday season is all about is to count your blessings and to follow the golden rule and to give unto others so you get blessed in return, and I think it's important for all Virginians to take a little time and pause to do so, whether its saluting a veteran or helping somebody at a homeless shelter to give during this season because that's the true meaning of the season," said Gov. Bob McDonnell.
