HENRICO COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - A security guard is recovering Friday morning after being shot during a robbery attempt outside a clothing store in Henrico.

It happened around ten o'clock Thursday night at the DTLR in the 3100 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike -- near Harvie Road. A mother and father told us they were in the car with their two young children and saw what happened.

Police say employees and the armed security guard were leaving for the night when they were approached by people armed with a gun. The security guard was shot in the hand. He was taken to VCU Medical Center and is expected to be okay. No one else was hurt.

Police are working to identify the suspects. If you know anything that could help, call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Police also tell us this is just one of a number of recent robberies involving DTLR stores.
