COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - A woman is threatened and carjacked in the parking lot of a busy shopping center. It happened just after eleven o'clock Thursday morning at Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights.

Police say, the victim was holiday shopping. She had just put bags in her vehicle. When the victim got in her car police say a man came up on the driver's side of the car, opened the door, forced his way inside and threatened the victim. He also ordered her to move over to the passenger side. She complied.

"She told him she'd give him whatever he wanted, just leave her alone," said Sgt. Val Eiler with Colonial Heights Police.

As the suspect drove off the victim jumped out the moving car and called for help. News of the crime is shocking to shoppers -- especially since it happened in broad day light, two day before Christmas.

Bill Hayes: "It's bold- brazen. I'm not proud of it," said shopper Bill Hayes.
Nicole Bell: "Well, you didn't do it - did you?"
Bill Hayes: "No I didn't do it, but I hope the person will be caught or put in jail."

Shoppers are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings, lock your door as soon as you get in your vehicle and if possible shop in a group.

"I got this big man over here to protect me. I take him everywhere I go, just kidding," said shopper Pat Barden.

As for the carjacking victim police says she's shaken up -- but safe. Police are looking for the carjacker as well as the victim's car. It's a blue 2008 Chevy Cobalt -- licence plate XNG 1643.
