State trooper vehicle smashed in New Kent accident

NEW KENT, VA (WWBT) - A Virginia State Police car was smashed from behind as the result of a series of crashes on eastbound Interstate 64 at the 221 mile marker in New Kent County this afternoon.

According to state police, while seated inside his patrol vehicle and parked on the right side of the roadway in the grassy area investigating a crash, a second crash occurred behind him.

The second crash occurred when a vehicle lost control and struck a box truck which caused the box truck to run off the right side of the roadway and strike the back of the troopers vehicle.

The trooper suffered minor injuries in the crash, which remains under investigation.
