Hermitage star Grant has tour of a lifetime

by Matt Lincoln

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Curtis Grant did not have the best weekend. His Hermitage Panthers lost in the state championship game, ending his high school career. But now there's nowhere to go but up for third ranked player in high school football.

Grant spent his first week after the high school football season getting the tour of a lifetime. Grant is one of six finalists for the U.S. Army All-American High School Football Player of the Year award. As a part of being one of the finalists, he was invited to spend the week in Washington D.C. for a week full of unbelievable experiences.

Along with Cody Kessler, another finalist from Bakersfield, CA who's committed to play quarterback at USC next year, Grant started by laying the wreath down on the tomb of the unknown soldier on Monday.  Next the players left Arlington Cemetery and went to the Pentagon where they met many of the high-ranking officials in the U.S. Army. Tuesday, the players went on a tour of the national headquarters of USA Today newspaper. In the afternoon they met injured soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. They ended their trip by watching a taping of ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption".

Grant had quite the eye-opening week, which will set in motion a wild few months.  Grant did not focus on the college search process during the high school season, and now, as the 3rd overall ranked player in high school football by Rivals, he has his pick of just about any school he wants.  This week, Grant is taking a visit to Ohio State.

Grant will find out if he wins the award on January 7th at a ceremony in San Antonio.  The next day he'll play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, televised on NBC12.  Most top players announce where they are going to school during the broadcast, but Grant will make his choice known on signing day with his teammates.
