U.S. airlines making billions in extra fees

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - With the peak holiday travel season still ahead, some new numbers show airlines in the U.S. have raked in billions of dollars in extra fees - including passengers changing tickets and checking luggage.

Through the first nine months of this year, Delta Airlines has gained over $1.26 billion in total fees, with more than $733 million just for baggage.

American Airlines is number two in baggage fees at $431-million, U.S. Airways third at $388 million.

Experts say air carriers will look at ways to speed up the boarding process for travelers - and they might raise prices even more.

With holiday budgets already stressed, that's not welcome news for air travelers who are packing their bags this holiday season.
