Woman hospitalized after being hit by car

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A woman is in serious condition, after being struck by a vehicle.

It happened just after 1:30 Sunday morning in the 1100 block of East Cary Street.

Police tell us a 53-year-old woman was crossing the street when she was hit.

She was taken to the hospital where she was immediately taken into surgery for serious head trauma.

There is no word on her condition at this hour.

Police do not believe the driver in this case will be charged because the woman did not cross at a designated crosswalk.
