Man found guilty of stealing church steeple

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - An Amelia County man is found guilty of stealing and selling a church steeple.

Now he could face more than 20 years behind bars.

The Times-Dispatch reports, Robert Hammonds, Sr. did not convince a Henrico judge he had permission to take the aluminum parts of the steeple that was donated to the Glen Allen Free Will Baptist Church.

Hammonds sold the 900-pound steeple parts for $400 in scrap.

His sentencing is set for February 8.
