RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Former Senator George Allen served with John Edwards in the US Senate and he and his wife, Susan, knew Elizabeth Edwards well.

Tuesday night he told NBC12 that Edwards' courageous fight was an inspiration to many.

Meanwhile, Allen is considering a run for his old seat. It looks like if he decides to challenge Jim Webb in a re-match, he will have some company in the Republican primary.

Several conservative and Tea Party candidates have expressed an interest in the Republican nod. Among them is Delegate Bob Marshall, and Richmond Tea Party activist Jaime Radtke.

While Allen is not officially a candidate, he is acting like one, traveling the state attending events and making appearances.

Allen says that he isn't worried about all the current political noise. Tuesday night he participated in a forum with Paul Goldman the former top aide to Doug Wilder, at the Southside Community Services building in Richmond.

The event focused on the future of public education in Virginia. You can read more about Allen's political future on our political blog,
