Hermitage playing for Va. title, has no problem with cold

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Bad news for the Hermitage Panthers is they have to practice this week in sub-freezing temperatures.  The good news, is they are still practicing.

The Panthers are the only team in Central Virginia with a game to prepare for, as they get ready for the Division 6 State Championship at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville.

In addition to the quality of the opponent, the other challenging thing about preparing for a state championship is that a team is often matched up against a team they've never seen before.

Hermitage takes on Battlefield out of the Manassas area.  Herm quarterback Brendon Riddick says Battlefield plays a similar offense to L.C. Bird, and that the team will use the preparation they had for the Skyhawks to help them get ready Battlefield.

Panthers Head Coach Patrick Kane has tried to keep the business as usual mindset, but the school is still planning a spirit week and pep rally to help send off the team. Kickoff is 4:07 at Scott Stadium Saturday.
