RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Virginia Commonwealth University's Board of Visitors met today with President Michael Rao to discuss his performance review.
The Board gave Rao a vote of confidence after a four-hour closed meeting. University spokesperson Pam Lepley said, the Board and Rao, "agreed on several areas of improvement and will work together moving forward."
Rao emerged from the closed meeting after about two hours Tuesday saying he had "a good conversation" with board members, who continued their discussion after he left. Rao said he would be available to return for further discussion if needed.
A consultant hired to perform Rao's evaluation presented his findings to the board last week. The 44-year-old Rao took office July 1, 2009, after serving as Central Michigan University's president since 2000.
VCU's faculty Senate last month adopted a statement giving Rao a vote of confidence.
