HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – A crime alert out of Henrico where police are looking for the person who fired a shot at a school bus.

Varina High School students were on that bus, luckily no one was injured. It happened Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Osborne Turnpike and Equestrian Way.

The shot hit the school bus causing nerves to rattle and a window on the bus to shatter.

Police say two men driving a tan or gold pick-up truck were traveling East on Osborne Turnpike when one of the men pointed something at the bus and fired. The bus driver pulled over, checked the safety of the two students onboard, and then called for help.

Thomas Betts is a senior at Varina High.

"People don't have anything better to do with their life but shoot a school bus - playing around. It's ridiculous," said Betts.

Betts and some of his classmates call the incident, crazy.

"It's scary. Just shocking," said Stephanie Saunders.

Police say it's unclear if a BB gun or something else was used in the shooting. What is clear, the incident has some students who ride the school bus worried.

"A student could have got hurt. The bus driver could have been hurt or distracted. They could have got into an accident," said Brittany Kenny.

Police say at this point the shooting appears to be random.

"I don't think it's funny. I don't like it somebody could have got hurt it's dangerous," said Kenny.

A spokesperson with the school district says student safety is a top priority and that the district is working with police to help solve the crime. If you have any information on who shot at that school bus call Henrico Police.
