Deadly accident in Prince George

Press release from Prince George County Police

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - County Drive, State Route 460, was re-opened around 11:45 this morning following a 5-hour closure due to a tragic fatal vehicle crash. The victim, 40-year-old Nicole M. Watts of Petersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was operating a 2000 Volvo sedan.

Prince George County Police, Fire & EMS units were called to the scene around 6:30 this morning. Fire & EMS workers were able to free one trapped victim in less than 10-minutes; that driver was taken to a local hospital along with the driver of another involved car. None of their injuries appeared to be life threatening.

Preliminary investigation has thus far revealed that a tractor-trailer truck and Ford pickup were west on County Drive when the eastbound Volvo contacted the pickup. The pickup truck collided with the tractor-trailer and the pickup began to rollover. Another vehicle then collided with the Volvo before leaving the roadway. Two other vehicles struck crash debris; one skidded off the highway while the other came to rest in the road. Although crash team investigators believe weather may have been a factor in this tragic crash they are continuing to work to determine the exact cause.
