RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Police are investigating a burglary Monday morning at Home Team Grill in The Fan.
Someone broke a glass door at the rear of the restaurant and stole the safe from the office. It happened sometime between 1:30 - 8:30 a.m. Home Team Grill is located at 1630 W. Main Street.
Someone broke a rear glass door, broke into an office and got away with the restaurant's safe. Richmond Police say they don't have much to go on and it's still early in their investigation.
Griselda Muner runs Trolley Market just a few feet away from Home Team Grill. She says she sees more break-ins with Christmas around the corner.
"It's the time of the year that everybody needs money," she said. "They know we're running a business. They're looking for it. We don't have it, but they think we do."
Garyt Shiflett works on the same block at Main Art Supply and Framing. He says break-ins like this are not common in The Fan, but that's not to say it doesn't happen.
"It's one of those things where you feel like it shouldn't be happening around here," he said. "But I think it's possible for crime to happen everywhere and if there's money, that's what is going to draw a criminal."
Police aren't sure if one person was acting alone or if several people were involved. Police also wouldn't say how much money was in the safe.
Muner says she can't believe someone didn't see the safe being taken out of the restaurant. But she also says there's a reason why she doesn't keep money at her store.
"I try not to leave money in the store because I don't think it's safe no matter what," Muner said. "It will take a minute for a thief to come in and out but still, we don't want anybody to break in."
