School leaders say emergency training likely prevented what could have been a tragic situation.
Classmates say they were watching a film when the 15-year-old they call "Sam" pulled out a gun and shot at the projector.
Twenty-three students and their teacher were held hostage for nearly six hours. After hearing gunshots police moved in and burst through the classroom door. They say Sam shot himself. Everyone got out safely, but students are shaken up.
Students say they tried to keep the gunman calm by talking to him about hunting and fishing. One classmate says he appeared depressed, but didn't seem like he wanted to hurt anyone.
