Construction worker dies in accident at Fort Lee

FORT LEE, VA (WWBT) - An employee of a civilian firm performing contract work at Fort Lee died here today from injuries he received when he fell from scaffolding at a construction site.  The employee was not affiliated with Fort Lee or the Federal Government.

Clinton Duke Clark, a 40-year-old employee of Manning Construction, was working as a laborer on a five-story barracks building at the intersection of 40th Street and E Avenue on post when he fell approximately 45 feet.  Preliminary reports indicate that the employee was wearing a safety harness at the time of the accident.

First responders from Fort Lee Fire and Emergency Services arrived at the site in approximately six minutes. Clark had a weak pulse and CPR was performed. Clark was transported by military ambulance to John Randolph Memorial Hospital in Hopewell where he was pronounced dead at 11:02 a.m.
