Richmond deputy sheriff found dead

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Sheriff C.T. Woody, Jr. reported the death of Deputy Antoine Scott, 44, a four year veteran of the Richmond City Sheriff's Office.

Earlier today, Deputy Scott was found dead at a local Henrico hotel where he was residing.  Deputy Scott was found by members of the Richmond City Sheriff's Office who went to the hotel after Deputy Scott failed to report for work.

Henrico County Police Communications was notified, and upon the arrival of Emergency Medical Services personnel, pronounced Deputy Scott dead on the scene. While there were no signs of foul play, the Henrico Division of Police is conducting an investigation.

Sheriff Woody said, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Deputy Scott. He was a dedicated and hard working employee who always greeted you with a smile and firm handshake."

Counseling services for employees of the Sheriff's office will be made available through the Office of the Chaplain.

As a sign of respect for Deputy Scott, Sheriff's Office employees shall wear black mourning bands across their badges until after the funeral services are held. Deputy Scott's family has been notified of his death, and funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
