RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Governor Bob McDonnell has a date with Defense Secretary Robert Gates to discuss the Pentagon's plan to shut down the Joint Forces Command.
McDonnell's military spokesperson said the governor has accepted an invitation to meet Gates on Tuesday.
In August, Gates announced his plans to close the Command, which is located in Norfolk and Suffolk.
The Command provides about 6,000 jobs in the Hampton Roads area.
Gates is expected to use the meeting to lay the groundwork for the closing.
