PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - A crime alert out of Petersburg where crooks forced their way inside of a home and stole thousands of dollars worth of electronics.
According to a police report, a 15-year-old has been arrested in connection to the crime. The victim, John Sootoo, believes at least eight people took part in the burglary. In part because a couple of heavy large screen TVs' were taken in less than an hour.
When Sootoo arrived home Tuesday morning he couldn't believe his eyes. His two 42 inch flat screen TV's were gone. So was his Play Station console, games, computer and other items.
"Basically all electronics I had -- it was everything I had except the big screen TV - they couldn't get it out," said Sootoo.
The thieves got inside the home by tossing a brick through the back bedroom window.
"It was terrible. The glass was on my bed, jacket, everything," said Sootoo.
The crooks left behind blood on the window and on some of Sootoo's clothing. Police found some of the stolen stuff in a vacant house on South Whitehill Drive -- that's about a block away from where the crime happened.
"People they want to steal, but they don't want to work," said Sootoo.
Several of Sootoo's neighbors at the Petersburg East Apartment says this type of crime is happening too often.
"If your car is gone they know you're not at home and they get you," said one neighbor who asked not to be identified.
She's encouraging folks in the community to be on alert.
"I think as neighbors we should watch out for each other -- each other's apartment."
As for Sootoo, he's hopeful more arrests will be made and all of his stolen goods will be found. If you have any information on this case call Petersburg Crime Solvers at 861-1212.
